‘Blended’: Exclusive Interview with Bella Thorne In “Blended” (in theaters May 23) Bella Thorne proves that she is more than “a Disney girl” playing alongside Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. I talked to the young talent via telephone about the Warner Bros. comedy and more. How much fun did you have making “Blended”? The vibe and the energy on set was at a different level of greatness. It was so much fun working with these actors. They are so funny! When you needed to get serious, everybody was concentrated and very professional. Drew [Barrymore] is amazing. You learn a lot working with her. Her hugs are awesome! Did you have to audition? I auditioned but it is funny because Adam said that while he was writing this role he was thinking about that girl from “Shake it Up,” who is me. So I told him “You still made me audition. That’s awful!” How was shooting in Africa? Africa is crazy. The culture is so beautiful. They speak like ten languages over there. Me describing to you doesn’t do it justice. You have to be there and experience it for yourself. It is wild! What is your favorite previous movie with Sandler and Barrymore? Probably “The Wedding Singer” because I love the scene at the end when Adam is singing to her. “I want to grow old with you” is called. It is a very sweet song and I love everything about it. You know what? I am going to download it from iTunes as we speak. I believe that they make each other better. Do you have that with another actor? Working with Zendaya for so many years in my show allowed us to really know each other and our comedic timing. We were able to play each other naturally and improvise so well. You don’t find that with many people. “Blended” isn’t the “immature” kind of comedy people associate with Adam Sandler. Adam makes a lot of movies for different fan bases. I think people that defines his projects as “immature movies” really overlook that he can does every type of humor for all kind of people: Teenagers, college kids, twenty-somethings, and for the entire family like this one. I guess that even the people that made the movie laugh when Terry Crews appears. When Terry Crews shows up everybody laughs. He is one of the people I was excited to work with, I loved him in “White Chicks.” When I saw him at the table read I was freaking out. What place do you think will this movie have in your career? People see me as the cute, dorky, funny girl. And I love that because I don’t want to play the pretty girl in school. But I hope that when people watch this they realize that I can pull off many different kinds of characters. “After a disastrous blind date, single parents Lauren (Barrymore) and Jim (Sandler) agree on only one thing: they never want to see each other again. But when they each sign up separately for a fabulous family vacation with their kids, they are all stuck sharing a suite at a luxurious African safari resort for a week.”
