Despicable Me 2 Interviews: We Talked to Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig and Benjamin Bratt At the Despicable Me 2 press conference we had the chance to speak with the protagonist of the animated sequel, Steve Carrell, Kristen Wiig and Benjamin Bratt. It is humbling to see successful stars like these being honest, gracious and modest. DesdeH.com: Both Gru and Eduardo start new businesses but then they miss the action. Do you ever fantasize about going away and doing something else? If so, would you miss acting and all this stuff? Steve Carrell: Boy, I don’t know. Part of me thinks that if I stop, I could very easily do nothing. Like, happily not doing anything. I think I am inheritally a very lazy person. But I don’t know, that remains to be seen. It will be a time that I’ll slow down to do anything or to move to other things. I’ll let you know. DesdeH.com: Most actors can’t stand watching themselves on screen. Can you enjoy an animated movie without paying too much attention to your own voice? Benjamin Bratt: That’s a great question. I find that most of us actors can’t stand ourselves in any form. I watched the finished film two days ago in anticipation of these press conferences. I found everyone else hysterical. Any other part of the movie really enjoyable, except for what I did. I was too self aware. I started wondering if I fulfilled what Al [Pacino] had originally done. He is one of my hero. I don’t know if I will ever believe that I equaled what he did. Whatever I felt while watching it, the overriding filling was pride. I think the movie is magical, that success at every level and achieves whatever goals the filmmakers had. I am really honored to be part of it. And I am finally cool in the eyes of my kids! DesdeH.com: The Minions remind us that clowns are still relevant. I was wondering if shows with physical comedy like The Three Stooges had an influence in you growing up. Kristen Wiig: Yes! I watched a lot of Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis, The Max Brothers and Lucille Ball. That was extremely physical! My dad watched all of those old things and he turned me onto them. Despicable Me 2 opened in theaters today July the 3rd. Twitter hashtag #DespicableMeDos.
