After years of rumors surrounding a “Dr. Strange” movie, Marvel has finally chosen Scott Derrickson as the director. Variety broke the news and later the filmmaker confirmed it with the following tweet:

Known as “The Sorcerer Supreme,” the character has defended Earth in the comics since 1963 against dark magical forces. According to unconfirmed rumors, Johnny Depp was approached at one point to play him. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is another name that had been thrown around.
