Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Confirms he is Black Adam in Shazam Movie After years of rumors Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has finally confirmed what comicbook character he will be playing on the big screen. "Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot." My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics pic.twitter.com/Qk55eNf3R7 — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) September 3, 2014 To me this isn’t a surprise. At a “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” roundtable interview last year I asked him about the character Lobo and he dismissed it with a “Lobo came and went.” Instead, he showed a genuine excitement for the possibility of playing Black Adam, someone that he defines in his tweet not as a villain but an “anti-hero.” Now there are two big questions. First, why on earth this wasn’t announced at the last Comic-Con? And secondly, who will be able to portray Shazam -in a rumored 2016 film- without being eclipsed by someone as strong and charsimatic as Dwayne Johnson? Here is the official description of this lesser-known DC character: “Long ago, the council of wizards—powerful beings that held dominion over all magic in the world—chose the warrior Black Adam as their champion, granting him vast magical powers and abilities. However, that power only further skewed Adam’s already maligned moral compass, and rather than use his newfound gifts to help others, he used it to dominate them. Adam turned against the wizards and after a brutal battle was imprisoned for thousands of years. But now he is free once more, and his insatiable quest to conquer the world, to control all magic, continues. The only thing that stands in his way is Shazam!, the new champion of magic—and Black Adam will do anything in his power to destroy him and assert his position as the true ruler of the world. Driven by a need to rule, incredibly arrogant and one of the most powerful beings on the planet, Black Adam lives by a simple creed: kneel at his feet or be crushed by his boot.”
