“Never work with children or animals” is a saying that has expired in Hollywood. Kid and teen actors are more professional and adults than ever. At 17, Dylan Minnette (“Prisoners,” the upcoming “Goosebumps”) has over a decade of acting experience on his very young shoulders. The rising star plays Anthony Cooper, big brother of the the titular boy in Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” (in theaters Friday October 10).

In our exclusive video interview Minnette reflects on his eclectic career, points out the main difference between young actors now and those in the ’90s, remembers how hard was not to laugh all the time while shooting with cast member Steve Carell, his dream of starring in an “Artemis Fowl” film adaptation, and more.

The film, directed by Miguel Arteta, also stars Jennifer Garner (Kelly Cooper), Bella Thorne (Celia), Ed Oxenbould (Alexander Cooper), Kerris Dorsey (Emily Cooper) and Carell (Ben Cooper).
