Exclusive Interview: Lance Reddick Talks THE DOMESTICS (Now on VOD) Desde Hollywood had the pleasure of speaking with phenomenal actor Lance Reddick (The Wire, Fringe, Bosch, John Wick films) about his latest role in the post-apocalyptic thriller THE DOMESTICS, and more. The movie, written and directed by Mike P. Nelson, also stars Kate Bosworth, Tyler Hoechlin, and David Dastmalchian. THE DOMESTICS is now playing in select theaters, and available on VOD. Nathan Wood is a multifaceted guy. How much fun was it to play a character like this? It was great. I wish I had another way to describe it, but it was exciting, it was a lot of fun. Partly because I haven’t played a character quite like this before. Another one of your characters that puts the audience on a hard spot, because we don’t know how to feel about him. Yeah, I have played a lot of characters that are morally, or ethically on the fence. I guess that this was also interesting because the story takes place in a world without rules and social conventions. Well, I am not sure that there are no rules. I say that because of Nathan’s interaction with The Plowboys, there are obviously rules in that relationship to prevent them from killing each other. But of course, the rules are definitely different, and a lot looser. In these tribal times that we are living in, it can also be appreciated as a cautionary tale. Right? I haven’t thought about that. But yes, I agree. What kind of questions did you have for writer-director Mike P. Nelson? Sometimes you have a line that can be interpreted in a couple of different ways, and you want the director’s take on it. The biggest question that I had for Mike is regarding the scene that I just brought up, with The Plowboys. I wanted to know more about that relationship, because I needed to play it in a way that it was believable for them to let us go. What comment on human nature do you see in the story? Wow. This is just based on what I believe. Often I hear “Most people are good,” and this story says “Most people aren’t good.” I don’t think that most people are bad either, but I believe that most people operate in the parameters of their perception of what self interest is. So, when you go from a highly industrialized culture, to a completely tribal culture, where everybody is fighting for resources, your perception of what is acceptable in order to survive changes dramatically. At the end the day, I think that human beings are animals, like any other animal: they would do whatever they need to in order to survive. The cast for “John Wick 3” keeps getting better and better. How excited are you about the chance to play with these amazing actors? It’s fantastic! Unfortunately, I can’t say too much about it. The thing that I feel that I can safely share is that I actually get to talk to Ian McShane in this one. In a terrifying post-apocalyptic world inhabited by gangs divided into deadly factions, a husband and wife race desperately across the countryside in search of safety and must work together as they are pushed to the breaking point in order to survive.
