Exclusive Luis Guzman Interview: ‘We’re The Millers’, Stripteases, Favorite Roles and More When this interview ended I told Luis Guzman that he was, in a way, the Latino version of The Rock. Not because of his physical appearance but his ability to inject a unique kind of energy to make any movie better. In this case was “We’re The Millers” (in theaters Friday), the R rated road trip comedy starred by Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis. Enjoy this tasty exchange with one of the best Latino actors in Hollywood today. Desde Hollywood: What was your reaction the first time you read about your character and the scene? Luis Guzman: “OK, this is different, this in interesting”. It’s comedy. We did a few takes and I think it was one of the funniest scenes in the movie. Desde Hollywood: How hard is to keep a straight face when you work with people this funny? Guzman: It’s all about having fun. If you try to keep a straight face then …don’t know. You complete the other actors and take their compliment back. It works both ways. Desde Hollywood: I think this movie brings the best in Jennifer Aniston. Guzman: She is very funny and in the movie she looks beautiful too. Desde Hollywood: But they didn’t ask you to do a striptease. What happened? Guzman: They didn’t have enough money in the budget to pay me to do a strip dance. And I don’t take dollar bills, I start at $20. In the sequel I will be the striptease instructor. Desde Hollywood: Will Poulterand Emma Roberts are very talented young actors. How big do you think they will become? Guzman: I can’t really speak for Emma, but Will will definitely become huge. That kid steals the movie. He was funny. Desde Hollywood: How great is it to be able to do family friendly movies and an R rated comedy? Guzman: It’s wonderful. I love working. I am very fortunate to get great material. I love to compliment everybody I work with. Desde Hollywood: What are your favorite comedies in your own filmography? Guzman: “Waiting”, I think that was very funny. I like my flamboyant role in “Anger Management”. Even my role in “Boogie Nights”, Maurice TT Rodriguez. That wasn’t a comedy but it was part of the comic relief of the story. Desde Hollywood: Do you think that now Hollywood is incorporating more Latinos in front of the camera? Guzman: I think so. But is not just about actors anymore. There are more writers, directors, editors and producers. It’s important that we show up in front and behind the camera. Desde Hollywood: I have seen you bringing your family to the red carpet. Would you like them to be in the entertainment industry? I think some of my kids will make an attempt to do it. Maybe not as actors but in the fashion or music industry. My family is very diversify and I will always support them. They see what the business is like so it’s up to them to decide what to do and how to do it. Desde Hollywood: You are the protagonist in “Aztec Warrior”. What can you tell us about it? Guzman: I think it’s a fun comedy. It comes out in February and I am very proud of it. I did it for my fans. Everybody always asked “When will you play the lead in a movie?”. I think the right project came along and we did a great job with it. I hope we get an excellent response. David Clark (Sudeikis) is a small-time pot dealer whose clientele includes chefs and soccer moms, but no kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms). We’re The Millers is out on August 07.
