Exclusive TEXAS RISING Interview with Iconic Musician José Feliciano History’s miniseries Texas Rising looks good and sounds even better. The magical sound of a Spanish guitar comes courtesy of a living legend like José Feliciano, who also composed a song in Spanish, available in the show’s soundtrack. I had the honor of talking to the Puerto Rican icon about his experience creating music for Texas Rising and much more. Why did you want to be part of Texas Rising? I like history a lot. I really like Mexico’s and the United States’ history. A friend of mine asked me to be part of this project and I said yes. I play the guitar in the series and that makes me really happy. I also composed “Igual que yo.” That songs reminds us that even in times of war people fall in love. Of course. I composed the song to illustrate the relationship between General Santa Anna and this girl called Lupe. I started thinking “What would I say in this situation?” so the lyrics say “Nobody will love you like I do. They won’t feel for you what I feel. Who will give you a sincere and pure love? Nobody will love you like I do.” How was it to play at The Alamo in front of the entire crew? It was very special to be in a place with so much history. We also did a concert to raise funds to save The Alamo. It’s a place that must be available for future generations. What is the role of the artist in times of war and political conflict? The artist’s role is trying to bring happiness and express freedom with the music. I hope that one day someone makes a series like Texas Rising educating people about what happened in countries like Argentina, or yours [Uruguay] that fought against tyrannical regimes. How would you evaluate your relationship with Hollywood in the past decades? It has been great for me. I can’t complaint, on the contrary, I thank God for everything that I have accomplished. I am very thankful. What are your upcoming projects? I have a new one this summer called “Latin Street MMXV,” that’s the name of the album. I think people will like it. It has been a long time since my last Latin album, but I have been really busy with other things. You are a very religious man. If you had to pick one, what song would you play for God? That’s a hard one. I have had so many hits… I don’t know. I believe that God would enjoy all of them. [Laughs]. TEXAS RISING‘s third episode Blood for Blood premieres on June 01, 09:00-11:00PM ET.
