While promoting Escape Plan at Comic-Con, Sylvester Stallone talked about The Expendables 3 with TheArnoldFans.com. In the interview he confirms that Mel Gibson will be in the crowded third installment of the successful action franchise.

“And we got Mel Gibson, Nic Cage, Jackie Chan and Weslie Snipes and now I have five new guys that you have never heard of.”

Earlier this week, Sly shared this on Twitter, sparking rumors that Gibson will be the villain.

Gibson already plays the bad guy in another action sequel, Machete Kills. But having Nicolas Cage in the mix, and possibly Steven Seagal (another Machete veteran), it is too soon to know for sure.

Another of his remarks hinted at a fresh take for The Expendables 3:

“We have a great director and the best stunt coordinator in the world. I said we’re going to make this like there’s no two other Expendables and that this is the first one.”

Is he talking just about style, or will the story reinterpret the characters and the established mythology?

The Expendables 3 hits theaters on August 15, 2014.
