Fede Alvarez Talks Dante’s Inferno, Army of Darkness 2, More (Exclusive Video Interview) Desde Hollywood talked to Fede Álvarez on the EyeGore Awards red carpet last Friday. The Uruguayan director told us why he is interested in adapting a violent video game to the big screen, what’s next in The Evil Dead saga, his involvement with the Evil Dead maze created at Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights (the best one, trust me), and how he feels about being a Latino today in the movie industry. DesdeH: What is going on with Dante’s Inferno? Fede Álvarez: We are talking to the studio, it can be our next movie. I am fan, specially of the poem. I don’t know why but in Uruguay we all grew up reading it and studying it. I think is the ultimate love story. Going to hell to look for the woman you love is incredible. That’s why I love the project. DesdeH: What are you looking for in a director for Evil Dead 2? Are you involved in that? Álvarez: Well, now the pressure is a bit more on Sam and Bruce. The next Evil Dead will probably be the Army of Darkness 2 that Sam wants to make so badly. Right now all the pressure is on that. DesdeH: Did you have anything to do with the Evil Dead maze here at Universal? Álvarez:Yes. Fortunately they gave me the chance to see what they were doing. My job was simply making sure that it was faithful to the movie. It is incredible, they reproduced every single detail. Not just at the art level, how the house looks, but the scenes and their concepts. DesdeH: In this Hispanic Heritage Month, do you see us Latinos better or worst? Álvarez: Better. I don’t think it is barrier. Nobody asks if you are Latino or not. On the contrary, I believe it’s an advantage. Many times they see you as something exotic. If you pitch a story with an accent it makes it more interesting than without one. Here is the interview en Español (yes, that’s how two Uruguayans talking sounds like):
