Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman in ‘Man of Steel 2/Batman vs. Superman’: 5 Burning Questions Today was announced that Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot has been chosen to play the first cinematic incarnation of Wonder Woman in ‘Man of Steel 2’ (AKA ‘Batman vs. Superman’). As far as I can remember, this is the first time that Warner Bros. confirms both a character and the actor that portrays it at the same time. This is what director Zack Snyder said: ““Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.” Here are my top 5 questions after learning the big news (what follows is pure speculation). How did Gal Gadot landed this part? The actress hasn’t have an impressive performance in any of the Fast & Furious movies. In a DC cinematic universe full Oscar nominees and winners this is very unusual. Henry Cavill is an exception, but his physical appearance and “good guy” vibe justified it. She must have presented a hell of an audition. How small will be the role of the Amazon Princess in the story? This keeps sounding less like a Man of Steel sequel and more like a Justice League BETA. Flash and Night Wing are also rumored to appear in a film that has to introduce a new Batman. Will the super-heroine show up at the last minute to help save the day and connect this movie to Justice League? Will we see a more discreet uniform? I am sure that Gadot has already started some kind of diet and exercise regime to add a few pounds. But that won’t be enough to look strong next to Henry Cavill’s Herculean body. The most popular and revealing version of her uniform won’t be able to cover her noticeable lack of volume (plus, it would look ridiculous in this universe). Instead of the jacket introduced in recent years in the comics, I would expect some kind of armor like Sif’s in ‘Thor’. Will Wonder Woman have an alter-ego? 99.9% of Man of Steel has no “nerdy Clark Kent”. Thor’s human disguise was completely removed from the Marvel films. Diana Prince, the Amazon’s public persona has been absent in recent comic interpretations and it may not appear for a couple of reasons. One is obvious, time to present two sides of the character. And Gal Gadot’s accent may make it hard for the public -specially for English speaking audiences- to believe that people won’t recognize her “secret” identity. Are today concrete plans for a Wonder Woman solo film? Think about this: Lionsgate got a hot -in all the meanings of the word- Jennifer Lawrence to lead its Hunger Games franchise after she made a splash both critically (Winter’s Bone) and commercially (X-Men: First Class). Marvel got Scarlett Johansson, someone as respected and famous as Lawrence, to play third tier character like Black Widow, and after breaking box-office records hasn’t announced a solo female movie. Casting someone without those credentials makes me think that Warner Bros. doesn’t have plans for a Wonder Woman, beyond having her as part of the team. Bonus question: Are you happy to see Wonder Woman or you are getting a ‘Sucker Punch’ vibe here?
