Heroes, Jedi and More in 2015 Disney Movies 2014 was a great year in terms of big movies and 2015 may be even stronger. In my “Most anticipated films of the year” list there are many titles coming from one company, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Take a look below at their impressive lineup -with confirmed release dates- scheduled for 2015. “Strange Magic” (Jan. 23); not yet rated. A fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Featuring popular songs from the past six decades, the story follows goblins, elves, fairies and imps on hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion. Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Kristin Chenoweth and Maya Rudolph voice characters. “McFarland, USA” (Feb. 20); rated PG. Novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California, give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Keven Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Based on the 1987 true story. Maria Bello also stars. “Cinderella” (Mar. 13); rated PG. Kenneth Branagh directs this live-action feature inspired by the classic fairy tale. The movie brings to life the images from Disney’s 1950 animated classic as full-realized characters. Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden and Stellan Skarsgard star. “Monkey Kingdom” (April 17); not yet rated. This true-life adventure follows Maya, a clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey. Disneynature’s film is set among ancient ruins in the jungles of South Asia. Maya welcomes her son, Kip, and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. But when their home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya’s whole family is forced to relocate. Other characters include a mongoose, langur monkeys, leopards and lizards. “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (May 1); not yet rated. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye are back in this Marvel Studios’ film. They’re put to the ultimate test as they battle to save the planet from the villainous Ultron. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, James Spader, Samuel L. Jackson and more star. “Tomorrowland” (May 22); not yet rated). George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Tim McGraw and more star in this mystery adventure about a jaded scientist and an optimistic teen who embark on a dangerous mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space. “Inside Out” (June 19); not yet rated. Directed by Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” and “Up”), this Disney Pixar movie follows Riley, who was uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Riley is guided by her emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to their new life, Joy, Riley’s most important emotion, tries to keep things positive. “Ant-Man” (July 17); not yet rated. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Corey Stoll, Michael Pena, Judy Greer and Michael Douglas star in a new Marvel Studios film. Master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. “The Jungle Book” (Oct. 9); not yet rated. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s classic story and Disney’s animated flim, “The Jungle Book,” the live-action adventure follows Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a boy who’s raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scar of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Also featuring Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), Baloo (voice of Bill Murray), Kaa (voice of Scarlet Johansson) and King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken). Untitled Steven Spielberg Cold War Spy Thriller (Oct. 16); not yet rated). Tom Hanks stars in this spy thriller, which is the true story of James Donovan, an attorney who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. The screenplay is by The Coen Brothers and also stars Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and more. Update your movie calendar Disney fan!
