Paramount CinemaCon Recap: ‘TERMINATOR’, ‘MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE’ and More Paramount Pictures was the first Hollywood Studio that showcased its 2015 slate during CinemaCon, the trade convention being celebrated this week in Las Vegas, NV. DH Movie News was there and here is a recap of what we witnessed inside the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum. A few movies were mentioned while their logotypes were shown on the big screen: Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Rings, Michael Bay’s 13 Hours, The Big Short, and Ben-Hur. While a Star Trek 3 logo also appeared I am sure that it won’t be the final title.Director Justin Lin and producer J.J. Abrams sent a very basic video, just greeting the audience. A very brief teaser for Nickelodeon’s Monster Trucks was the only footage showcased for an animated film. We also saw a 3D rendering of the beloved mutants Bebop and Rocksteady for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. The funniest thing was, by far, a video-message from Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller in character). It was pretty much a monologue of hilariously idiotic statements, except for a cameo by Billy Zane. Zoolander 2 opens on February 12, 2016. Courtesy of Paramount Pictures. Besides these mentions, two upcoming movies got the spotlight: Terminator: Genisys (in theaters on July 1, 2015) and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (out July 31). Arnold Schwarzenegger and his bombastic personality took control of the stage, reminding everyone of the success of the first three installment -“The only ones that count” according to the ex-Governor- and promising an action-packed box-office hit with the new one. The 12-minutes-long sneak peek shown was mainly composed of extended bits of sequences in the released trailers. Nothing major was revelad, but the intriguing thing to me was a line that went something like “Whatever they did to John [Connor] we are going to reverse it.” Is that thing we see in the promotional videos actually Sara’s son, being “possessed” by a Skynet virus or something? Regardless, I am almost sure that isn’t a T-800 nor a T-1000. The closing act was the one and only Tom Cruise, with co-stars Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson, presenting two clips and a montage of the fifth Mission: Impossible. The first video focused on an interrogation scene that leads to an intense fight sequence, marking the first time that Ethan Hunt and Ferguson’s character meet. The second clip was a heart-pounding chase scene through the streets of Morocco. According to the mega star, Cruise himself was behind the wheels for most of the dangerous shoot. The final piece centered on the publicized scene where Cruise hangs outside a 8400 airplane during take-off. Everybody in the auditorium went crazy with the intensity, humor, and scale shown in the Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation footage, becoming without a doubt the highlight of the Paramount CinemaCon presentation. After finding himself in a new time-line, Kyle Reese teams up with John Connor’s mother Sarah and an aging terminator to try and stop the one thing that the future fears, “Judgement Day”. Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.
