RoboCop: First Trailer and Photos Show the Impressive Cast and Different “Suits” A few months ago many people online reacted negatively when photos from the set showed a black RoboCop (in theaters February 7, 2014). The film’s release date was postponed and that energized those critical voices. Now the first official trailer finally arrives, to prove once again that patience is a virtue, specially for geeky movie fans. The promotional video shows the hero in his traditional chrome color, and who decided to change it to black (Batman, of course!). The aesthetic decision being made by the main antagonist of the story(interpreted by Michael Keaton) makes me think that this Tron-like look won’t be permanent. The lack of violence and signs of socio-polithical themes -defining elements of the beloved original- shouldn’t be cause for alarm. This is the first green-band trailer and as long as the studio respects director José Padilha’s vision, there will be plenty of those ingredients. The most striking thing for someone that hasn’t been following this production is to see together talents like Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Keaton. Ironically, the lees recognizable face for most people may be the protagonist’s. Joel Kinnaman is a fantastic actor that after impressing TV viewers in The Killing has the first opportunity to make himself a name with a high profile project. Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Michael Kenneth Williams complete the main cast. and Michael Keaton and will hit theaters on Take a look at this first set of photos (via The LA Times) and trailer. “In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.”
