SCOOB! Interview: Ariana Greenblatt on Voicing Young Velma and More! After portraying a young Gamora in “Avengers: Infinity War,” Ariana Greenblatt gives her voice to a young Velma in SCOOB! (now available). Desde Hollywood had the pleasure of speaking with the talented Latina actress about the anticipated animated film from Warner Bros. and much more. The movie, directed by Tony Cervone, also features the voices of Will Forte, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Gina Rodriguez, and Frank Welker. How excited are you and your family with the film’s digital premiere? We are very excited. We are going to see the movie together and I just can’t wait! What do you enjoy the most about doing voice acting? I really enjoyed it. Playing my favorite Scooby-Doo character was a lot of fun. The director was wonderful to work with. Being there, pretty much wearing my pajamas was the coolest thing ever. Were you familiar with the Scooby-Doo show? Yes. I watched all the shows and movies so yeah, I was very familiar. I love Scooby-Doo! How important are the messages of friendship and teamwork that are present in the story? Who doesn’t love friendship? Having these characters coming together and growing their relationships while solving a mystery is very cool to see. Also, we learn how Shaggy and Scooby met and their friendship started. It’s awesome! What qualities make Velma an essential part of the team? She is the brain of the operation, very smart, wise and independent. It’s cool to see her taking matters into her own hands. Velma is very important to squad in the mystery-solving process. Her adult version is voiced by Gina Rodriguez. I assume that you didn’t interact here, but you worked with her in another film. Right? Yes! We recorded separately in this project, but we filmed a Netflix movie called “Awake” together. She was wonderful to work with and I love her dearly. She is one of my favorite actresses. The Latina power that we had together was amazing! You did a great job in “Avengers: Infinity War.” How were the other actors and those long make-up sessions? I always wanted to wear prosthetics and I love wigs so it was very cool. One day I had Captain America next to me getting a haircut and I thought “This is insane!” Everytime I left the make-up trailer they had to put a huge umbrella over me because my character was such a secret and a surprise. We will have to wait a year to see you in “In the Heights.” How was it being on set, surrounded by so many talented Latinos? Working with director Jon M. Chu and Leslie Grace, who plays the adult version of my character ‘Nina’, was incredible. It was great to play her backstory, when her imagination ran wild. I loved it! SCOOB! is now available for rent and purchase on digital platforms, in English and Spanish. Scooby-Doo is the hero of his own story in “SCOOB!,” the first full-length, theatrical animated Scooby-Doo adventure, which reveals how he and his best friend Shaggy became two of the world’s most beloved crime busters. The story takes us back to where it all began, when a young Scooby and Shaggy first meet, and team up with Daphne, Velma and Fred to launch Mystery Incorporated.
