Originally from Sevilla, Spain, Julian Lara is a well-known, award-winning director in his home country, in part due to the success of his Deadhunters trilogy.

His career highlights also include two published books about the craft and life of a filmmaker. His latest, Welcome to Hollywood, which had its own documentary version, was praised by iconic and renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

After a significant number of horror short films and feature films, now Lara is preparing for his directing debut on the American screen with another film he has written himself. This exciting new project comes with the provocative title, I’ll See you in Hell.

We recently had the chance to talk to the Spaniard about this upcoming new movie.

When and where are you going to shoot I’ll See you in Hell?

This movie will start production early next year, and, presumably, we will be shooting on location in Los Angeles.

This time you have left the zombies behind, correct?

Yes. Although I love zombies, it was the right time to do something different. I wanted to explore other types of horror.

How exciting is it to shoot in Los Angeles instead of Spain?

I love living and filming in LA. The shooting of my short film ‘Til Death Do Us Part in downtown Los Angeles was very exciting. I can’t wait to start shooting again.

What can you tell us about the cast?

We are still in talks with some terrific actors and actresses for the main roles, but we are very close to a deal. I’m very grateful to work with actors I truly admire.

The production company behind this movie appears to have a lot of experience in this genre. Right?

Yes, I’m very excited and grateful to work with Ombra Films, the production company founded by my friend and filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra. We were just looking for the right project on which to collaborate. Currently, he’s very busy working on his new Disney movie; I visited him recently in his post-production studio. He’s giving me a lot of freedom in the making of the movie, which I greatly appreciate.

When can we expect to see the film?

We are hoping for a release by Thanksgiving, 2021. I’m focused on making a great movie.

Looking forward to it. Thank you for your time.

Thank you!
